Uber/Didi/Ola Driver - Registering for ABN

As per the Australian Taxation Office (ATO) all ride-share driver partners (driving through Uber, Didi, Ola, etc.) MUST register for Australian Business Number (ABN) with GST.

Please note: having an ABN doesn’t mean you’re automatically registered for GST.

Do I need to register for GST if my turnover is less than $75,000?

As an Uber, Didi, Ola driver, irrespective of your income, you must account for GST on all earnings. This means that if you only make a total of AUD $50 as a driver, you will still need to register for GST and declare the income on your tax return.

How do I apply for ABN with GST?

We have simplified the process for you to apply for ABN:

1. Use the link below to enter your details. You can get an ABN and register for GST at the same time: https://www.applyfor-abn.com.au/abn-application

2. Once you have submitted your details, a tax agent will review your details for compliance.

3. The tax agent will then submit your application to the ATO.

4. Once your ABN is generated, it will be emailed to your nominated email address.

If I already have an ABN, but have not registered for GST?

If you already have an ABN, but have not yet registered for GST - you MUST register for GST within 21 days from the time you start providing ride-sourcing services. You can register for GST online: https://www.applyfor-abn.com.au/gst-registration
